First emitted in 1979 the Canadian Maple Leaf was the second goldbullion coin on the market after the Krüger Rand (1967). The Maple repeatedly set new standards. Already in 1982 the Maple was the fi rst bullion coin with a purity of 99,99%. In 2007-2009 there were special editions with a purity of 999,99% which also showed an altered design of the maple leaf. In general the maple design of Canada’s national coat of arms is is the design favoured for the gold Maple coin. As Canada is a bilingual country, the addendum on the coin is in both French and English.
