The Ducat from Austria is the official new coinage of a comparatively small gold coin (about 1/10 oz) and originated in Venice. With time, its circulation spread throughout Europe and to the German-speaking areas, where it functioned as the official currency. Later, Emperor Franz Joseph I (1848-1916) ordered it to be used as a trading coin. The bargain of goods between countries was realised by means of that coin. All official new coinages of the Ducat attainable today are from the year 1915, which is the last year of its ministerial mint.
